The idea of Engineering Competition appeared in the BEST in 2002, and a year later first local engineering competitions were held in Eindhoven (The Netherlands) and Ghent (Belgium). In 2004 Competition was divided into several levels:

  • LBEC — Local BEST Engineering Competition. They are held in Univesities, where students of Local BEST Ggroup study.
  • NEC/REC — National/ Regional Engineering Competition. Winners of local EC of a countryor a region participate there.
  • EBEC — European Engineering Competition. To date, it has the highes rank in hierarchy, winners of regional/national EC compete there.
Intercontinental Competition is also planned for the future.

The purpose of this event is giving SPBSTU students an opportunity to participate in extracurricular event, practice their knowledge and skills acquired during study, demonstrate their creativity and technical, but non-standard thinking.

Engineering Competition means that a team of 4 students work on the task, either Team Design or Case Study.

Team Design is a task that involves a theoretical solution to a problem and its realisation in pactice using pre-specified materials. Jury rate teams according to  results of the work performed. Team that scored the maximum in total wins.

Case Study is a task that consists of the description of the real technical problems, economic and social situations. Participants should review the situation, understand the content of the problem, suggest solutions and choose the best of them. In this scenario, team will have to make a presentatios on the results. And on the basis of these presentationsteams will be rated and a winner chosen.
